Actress, singer, dancer Zendaya calls out the people who were have called her parents ugly.
Recently, somebody uploaded an old photo of Zendaya with her parents, Claire Stoermer and Kazembe Ajamu Coleman, that was taken in 2013 at her Planet Hollywood hand print ceremony. The posting, and comment of, the picture sparked a vicious stream of comments that peaked when one user called her parents “really ugly” on the post, according to Rapid News Network.
Other people fell in line with the derogatory remark adding in more comments that referenced her parents as funny looking and ugly.
Zendaya did not stand back and chalk it up to the negative part of being a celebrity. Instead, she called them out on it. And she did it with class.
“While you’re so concerned about what my parents look like, please know that these are two of the most selfless people in the world.”
She then proceeded to tweet back two days later a picture of her smiling family alongside the response.
“Go look in the mirror and know that you too are attractive, because such hateful things only stem from internal struggles. Bless you.”
Zendaya said, “Honestly at that point, it wasn’t really about me.”
It was not the first time that Zendaya had been on the receiving end of inappropriate personal comments about her life. During the February 23 episode of Fashion Police, the host, Giuliana Rancic, made an insensitive racial remark about her, and then later, begged for Zendaya’s forgiveness.
Rancic said that Zendaya’s dreadlocks made her look like she “smells like patchouli oil or weed.” Although the actress was infuriated by the comment, she stepped up to plate with humor and class to defend herself.
The singer added a final remark to close the conversation on her personal life and family.
“Bless you.”
