The Sonos Play:5 is currently available for pre-order -- but should you get one?
A new multi-room sound system known as the Sonos Play:5 is making waves in the tech world now that it’s available for pre-order.
Sonos aims to produce sound systems that will fill the room with booming audio, and the new Play:5 aims to improve on previous models — and it does so rather successfully, according to a recent Mashable review.
It has an extra little feature: the Truplay home audio tuning system. But it’s going to come at a hefty price tag of about $499, making it the most expensive in the Sonos Play line.
But you’ll also get more for it, or at least that’s Sonos’ goal. It has twice the number of drivers that was in the Play:3 system, and it has the capability to produce heavy, pounding sound throughout the entire room.
It’s got some extra heft in order to be able to do that. The Play:5 weighs a whopping 14 pounds, and it is more than a foot long, meaning it won’t fit in your hand like previous players.
But you won’t be disappointed with the ease of use, the reviewer wrote, noting that Play:5 is easy to set up. It can be hooked up directly to your WiFi or with an Ethernet jack. It comes with a free iPhone app.
Once everything is set up, you can access the new Trueplay feature, which will read your room environment and adjust the audio output to give you optimal quality.
The end result is a rock solid sound system that delivers as promised: an easy to use speaker that fills the room with high quality sound. And it’s small enough to move it about with ease. The reviewer questioned how much the Trueplay feature did in reality, but was satisfied with the overall experience.
The system is available for pre-order.
