A shocking crime has left a young child dead of a gunshot wound.
A man with a gun and mental instability in Detroit murdered 7-year-old Emma Watson and then turned the gun on himself in a shocking incident, police said.
Police say 57-year-old Timothy Nelson Obeshaw, who was a family friend, also shot the girl’s mother, 37-year-old Sharon Elizabeth Watson, who is now in stable condition at the hospital, according to a Detroit News report.
The incident happened at the Taylor Sportsplex in Detroit. Although police don’t yet have a motive for the shootings, it appears that Obeshaw had been going through mental instability in the past year. There was evidence he thought someone was trying to control his mind and that he was paranoid. There is no sign Obeshaw received any treatment for his illness. He did not appear to have a criminal record.
It does not appear that Obeshaw and Watson were romantically linked.
Sharon and Emma had been at the Sportsplex for soccer practice. Obeshaw was even seen hugging the girl, who hugged him back, seemingly indicating that nothing was amiss. Obeshaw had attended soccer practices before.
But that quickly changed when practice ended as Obeshaw is believed to have walked up to Watson and her daughter as they preapred to leave in their vehicle, pulling out a 9mm pistol and firing it at them. The gunw as legally obtained back in September.
It is a shocking tragedy that has left the community searching for answers.
Watson is still undergoing treatment at Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn, and is expected to recover. She has been informed of her daughter’s death.
