PornHub has some interesting ideas on what the future of porn looks like.
It’s the next destination of virtual reality, and porn site PornHub intends to be on the cutting edge.
With industry experts projecting adult virtual reality to be a $1 billion industry by 2015, porn leaders are looking to score some firsts in the lucrative market.
PornHub has announced they are launching a virtual reality category, making it the first free adult website to do so.
The firm is not going to be taking this launch lightly: they will be giving away 10,000 headsets as part of the promotion. However, you will need your own phone.
In a statement, the company describes virtual reality as the next phase in the changing world of adult entertainment. Through VR porn, users will be able to be “protagonists” in interactions with porn stars.
PornHub is partnering with BaDoinkVR as part of the project. Videos will be available to both iOS and Android users.
“At Pornhub it is our duty to provide our global audience with the latest in cutting edge technology. Virtual reality is the next phase in the constantly metamorphosing world of adult entertainment, and will provide users with a mesmeric experience unlike anything they’ve seen before. Now, our users are not only able to view our content, but be protagonists in the experience and interact with their favorite porn stars,” Corey Price, vice president of PornHub, said in a statement. “We encourage our users to request a free pair of virtual reality goggles and visit Pornhub’s virtual reality section. There, users’ wildest fantasies will come alive as they slip into a world of heightened titillation.”
Added Todd Glider, CEO, BaDoinkVR: “We’re incredibly excited to be providing the content and tech behind Pornhub’s new initiative. After decades of kicks and starts, virtual reality is finally hitting its stride. McDonalds Happy Meal boxes are doubling as Google Cardboard; now Pornhub is tossing its hat in the ring. Calling this revolution in mass communication a fad, resisting the urge to Drink the Kool Aid, grows steadily more irrational.”
