Get ready: Miitomo is coming soon, to an app store near you.
Nintendo is launched its first smartphone app, Mitomo, and it’s just a few days from release in Japan.
Called Miitomo, it has an official release date of March 17, and there isn’t yet a release date for the rest of the world. Nintendo Japan is offering a bonus to those who pre-register by March 16.
Nintendo announced it on its Japan Twitter account, but there’s been no official word on the release of Miitomo elsewhere, although you can pre-register for it using a Nintendo Account by logging in via a social network or registering your email address.
Miitomo isn’t a game, but rather a social app allowing you to create Mii characters that can communicate with other Miis via iOS and Android devices. You can send message, upload photos, and buy outfits for your Mii.
“Miitomo is a uniquely entertaining mobile experience that only Nintendo can deliver,” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, said in a statement. “Featuring Mii characters, users will be able to interact with their friends in an entirely new way that transforms communication into a form of play.”
The statement added: “Users can spark fun conversations and learn more about each other by answering questions such as “What song has been stuck in your head lately?”, “Do you believe in aliens?”, or even “If you saw a nose hair sticking out of your friend’s nose, what would you do?” Users can also easily take and share photos featuring their Mii with the Miifoto feature. Nintendo’s new My Nintendo rewards program will launch alongside Miitomo in March, and will be able to connect with the app.”
