California's Great America theme park will be hosting a Mass Effect attraction soon.
Good news, Mass Effect fans: a theme park is creating an attraction based around the popular video game series, and it’s opening soon.
California’s Great America announced that the Mass Effect attraction will open May 18th, a ride that offers visitors a 4D entertainment experience, according to a statement from the developer.
The theme park, which is located in Santa Clara, Calif., will have an interactive 3D presentation with 4D effects that is hosted by a live performer. The riders will go to a distant planet and fight enemies, although there aren’t any specifics yet on what exactly that means.
Mass Effect publisher EA is collaborating on the project. The attraction may serve partially as a promotional scheme for Mass Effect’s next game, Andromeda, which is scheduled for release in early 2017. Not much is known about this highly anticipated release.
“You’ll soon be able to hop aboard Commander Shepard’s favorite ride at California’s Great America,” BioWare announced in September 2015 statement. “BioWare is teaming up with Cedar Fair to create a dynamic 3D adventure set in the Mass Effect universe.
“The interactive ride, curated by a live performer, will take guests on a journey to a distant planet, where they will face off against larger-than-life foes and fight to save the day,” the statement continues. “Using cutting-edge 3D technology and 4D effects, the ride throws passengers right into the action, creating a fantastical adventure that they won’t soon forget.”
Patrick O’Brien, vice president of entertainment and licensing at EA, said in a statement that EA and BioWare are “trilled” to partner with Great America on the project.
“Having a partner who shares our commitment to thrilling our fans is extremely important to us and we look forward to building an attraction that will appeal to the Mass Effect fan-base and introduce it to many more,” he said.
