Audi has just produced its most powerful production car ever.
Audi has unveiled the latest R8 V10, and it has the auto industry talking.
The sleek sportscar is almost entirely new except for the engine and transmission, as the company seeks to improve on the body’s stiffness and take it to a “whole new level,” said Modular Sport Car System project manager Alwyn Watkins according to an Autoweek report.
While the Audi is happy with the powertrain, the company wanted to take a second look at the front end to try to make a “big step forward,” Watkins added.
The chassis of the vehicle is made of carbon fiber and aluminum, which enhances the stiffness of the vehicle and also makes it safer.
Getting the stiffness right was the main focus of Audi for the R8, according to the report.
The car is absolutely loaded with power. The V10 engine boasts 610 horsepower thanks to a new fuel-injection system.
Autoweek called it the fastest and most powerful production Audi ever, and the company argues that only the 911 Turbo and Turbo S could even hope to compete with it, although Autoweek believes the McLaren 575 and 650 are also up there.
Of course, buying an R8 V10 will set you back — $191,900 to be exact.
“With its distinctive design, its driving dynamics and its closeness to racing, the R8 is one of the strongest calling cards for the four rings and is the flagship car from Audi Sport. The first generation of the R8 paved our way toward becoming a premium brand and raised the aura of Audi to a new level. The new R8 will continue this success story and further accelerate the growth strategy of Audi Sport,” Dietmar Voggenreiter, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG, said in a statement.
