The unveiling of "Rich Cards" could change how you search on your phone.
Google is making a big change with how you search on mobile.
Google has unveiled what it is calling “rich cards,” a format that will make googling on your phone much more visual than it was in the past, according to a Google statement.
Basically, they’re search results that come with small images and a small sample of the text from the website. The search giant is giving this new function a try, testing it out on recipes and movies first before moving on to other types of sites.
So that means if you search for a movie like Captain America Civil War, you’d see a carousel of cards at the top of the results page. You can scroll sideways through them to get different results.
Right now, these results are restricted to the English version of Google, although it will probably expand coverage later.
“For site owners, this is a new opportunity to stand out in Search results and attract more targeted users to your page,” the Google statement reads. “For example, if you have a recipe site, you can build a richer preview of your content with a prominent image for each dish. This visual format helps users find what they want right away, so you’re getting users who specifically want that especially delicious cookie recipe you have.”
