The actor was paying the hefty sum to support four children
Charlie Sheen had been paying ex-wives Brooke Mueller and Denise Richards an estimated $55,000 per month in child support. However, the actor just slashed the payments due to financial difficulties.
The Anger Management star – who has two daughters with Richards and two sons with Mueller – is said to now pay $25,000 per month to help maintain stability.
Richards – who was with Sheen from 2002 to 2006 – and Mueller, who split from him in 2011, decided to avoid a court hearing because the procedure could have slashed the payments down to $10,000 monthly.
Sheen is still very much involved and willing to keep supporting his children, however. In fact, he had recently stated that he regrets not spending more time with them.
“I regret not using a condom one or two times when this whole thing happened. I regret ruining ‘Two and a Half Men’. I regret not being more involved in my children’s lives growing up … But, we can only move forward from today, and they wouldn’t call it the past if it wasn’t.”
Sheen has also been dealing with serious medical issues after being diagnosed with HIV four years ago. This could possibly help explain the reason for cutting back on child support payments, despite being well off thanks to his lengthy acting career.
He previously said about his medical condition: “It was like being released from prison … and we unearthed the stepping stones to a rubicon of change.”
The star had recently urged other HIV-positive celebrities to come forward in an effort to eliminate the stigma surrounding the disease.
““It would be good if more celebrities announced that they are infected with HIV. That would help things,” he shared.
