Campbell: “I'm glad to be able to call him a personal friend”
Naomi Campbell says she’s a big fan of Boy George and would sit outside his home “for hours” waiting for an autograph. The supermodel also feels lucky to call the singer both an idol and a friend.
She told Attitude magazine: “He was my childhood idol and I’m glad to be able to call him a personal friend. I used to sit outside his house with my friend for hours with magazines or whatever else we wanted him to sign.”
Campbell recalled her appearance in some of his work as a 13-year-old.
She continued: “As a fan, I feel lucky to have appeared in two Culture Club videos. When I was 13, I played a tap-dancing chorus girl in ‘I’ll Tumble 4 Ya’ video. The following year, they cast me in another of their videos, ‘Mistake No. 3′. I absolutely loved Culture Club and Boy George and I still do.”
Despite her admiration for Boy George, Campbell was even more excited about appearing in a Bob Marley video at age seven.
“I have to say, out of all the videos I’ve appeared in, I think the Bob Marley one is the most exciting. I was just seven years old and it was my first music video.”
The model also revealed her family’s love for reggae music and being grateful for such opportunities at a young age.
She stated: “I was too young to understand much of it but I remember being a bit nervous when I was taken to meet him.
My family loved reggae music. I still clearly remember there being lots of Bob Marley being played on the radio at home. Having those opportunities at such a young age was amazing.”
