Tyga: “whatever you put in your music is how you want people to view you”
Tyga revealed that his often-unpredictable personal life, including his relationship with Kylie Jenner, inspires his lyrics and music style. While the two are currently together, they are known to have on-off phases since getting together in 2014.
He told Harpersbazaar: “(The scrutiny) just gives me more subjects to talk about. Basically whatever you put in your music is how you want people to view you.
I could be going through something in my life that I might not want to talk about in my music because my music is the way that I escape some of those things. Sometimes I say stuff to relate to people. It just really depends, because you don’t have to be one type of artist and talk about one thing.”
The artist explained how rap music helps him explore his creativity, adding: “That’s the freedom and creativity that you have of being an artist, especially with rap. Rap is the number one most influential thing, it’s the only genre that really strikes a chord.”
Tyga tends to ignore critics on social media as he does not gauge his success based on online popularity. He says that the internet is not “real life” and people often act differently thanks to anonymity.
He shared: “Online is online. It’s a whole other world. It’s not actually real life. People go on there and talk shit or criticise, but I’ve never been into the internet.
I’m not an internet artist, I didn’t get discovered on the internet – I got discovered pushing my mix tapes on the street, walking on foot, going to parties, passing them out. So it doesn’t really get to me like that.”
