Rose: “'I'm just a regular girl from Philly”
Amber Rose claims she doesn’t quite understand why or how she became famous and admits she initially had a hard time accepting it.
The 32-year-old TV personality – who once dated Kanye West and has a young son with ex-husband Wiz Khalifa – says she was never hoping to become a celebrity. She also recalled how people constantly criticized her despite not really knowing her.
When America’s Harper’s Bazaar asked who she admired, the model replied: “And myself. Because I came such a long way. I didn’t really want to be a celebrity. It just kind of happened to me.
Without even asking, the paparazzi is following me around and I’m like, ‘I’m just a regular girl from Philly. I don’t know why you guys are following me. This is really weird.’
And then the entire world is ridiculing me for things I’ve never even done. It really sucked and it was a very hard time in my life.”
However, Rose says she no longer pays attention to critics and wants to use her fame to inspire others.
She added: “Now I still see those things but I’m completely over it. I threw negativity out the window and just live my life for me and my baby. Hopefully I inspire women to do the same in life, with whatever makes them happy.”
Not everything is bad news when it comes to people’s odd behavior, as her personal experiences have taught her not to judge others
“I think you need a very strong mind to be on social media because people are mean and ignorant out there. And I was one of those people.
I remember back in Philly and I was poor and TMZ just came out and Paris Hilton was everywhere like, ‘People don’t understand how hard I work. I work really, really hard.’ And I was like, ‘Is this b***h serious right now? She’s an heiress.’
But when I got this fame and I met Paris and she’s super sweet and she works really, really hard. It’s not easy. I had to live that and understand that life to not pass judgment.”
