Her children considered their relationship “perfect” as it was
Goldie Hawn has been married to Kurt Russell for 33 years now, but the actress revealed her marriage wasn’t always welcome.
The star says that her children – 37-year-old Kate Hudson and 40-year-old Oliver, whom she had with ex-husband Bill Hudson – never approved of their marriage. They refused the idea of the actors tying the knot because they were already “perfect” without that type of commitment.
She revealed while speaking on Loose Women: “About 10 years into our relationship we asked the kids, ‘Do you want us to get married?’ and they went, ‘No!’
They loved it, it was perfect the way it was. They didn’t want any trouble, they wanted us to not be married. Every child wants to be married, but not every relationship works and that is the truth.”
Goldie – who had once also married actor Gus Trikonis – shared her “formula” on how long a committed couple should be together.
“It depends on what year or era you are in in your relationship. In the beginning you want to be together all the time. And then you get jealous when they are gone for too long. I would say in a healthy long-term relationship, I would say it would be great to be together about 69 per cent of the time. ”
The star appeared on the show partly to discuss her children’s educational program, MindUp, a project that teaches meditation in schools. She admitted this was one of the most difficult things she’s ever faced. However, she looked forward to taking a break from acting after several decades in the industry.
She shared: “The truth of the matter is I took a break because I had so much passion for children. I created this programme 13 years ago and it has been the hardest thing I’ve honestly ever done.”
