Zellweger: “I love working with him. He's a lot of fun”
The 47-year-old actress returned for the latest sequel in the Bridget Jones’s movie franchise, but admits she misses her friend Hugh Grant, whom she enjoyed filming with in the previous film.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Of course (I missed him). He’s informed so much of Bridget’s journey and the choices she’s making in this latest incarnation, so I felt like he was part of it in some way. And, very selfishly, I missed him because he’s my pal and I love working with him. He’s a lot of fun.”
Needless to say, the actress enjoyed working with Colin Firth again, who reprises his role as Mark Darcy and serves as Bridget’s on again, off again boyfriend.
She also welcomed Patrick Dempsey, who plays Jack Qwant, with open arms. The latter character sweeps Bridget off her feet but soon complicates matters after realizing she is pregnant.
She continued to say: “He’s [Colin’s] like your favorite old jeans. We’ve been through so many interesting experiences and shared so many awkward moments filming, it’s so easy when I see him. If ever you thought, ‘Wow, he seems like a very special person’, you’re right. And that Patrick Dempsey’s no schlub, either.”
Zellweger said Bridget Jones is very relatable to audiences, which makes everyone love and adore her.
“Bridget is eternally optimistic, self-effacing and finds humor whenever facing adversity. She’s perfectly imperfect, and that’s what people relate to in her.”
Bridget Jones’s Baby brings audiences back to see how her life has changed over the years. The film is scheduled for release on September 16 in the United States and the United Kingdom.
