Ora: “Jay Z is my inspiration and one of my idols”
Rita Ora admitted she found it disrespectful to be accused of being romantically involved with Jay Z after the release of Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
People were speculating that the “Becky with the good hair” the song mentions is a subtle reference about the 25-year-old after she donned lemon-printed lingerie on Snapchat. She was subsequently seen wearing a “Not Becky” pin during the Met Gala after-party earlier this year.
Ora – who recently left Jay Z’s Roc Nation label and signed on with Atlantic – says the couple are her idols and is incredibly rude for people to come to such conclusions.
She told Vanity Fair magazine: “First and foremost, Jay Z is my inspiration and one of my idols — lyrically, musically, business-wise. I still look up to him and his wife every day. Beyoncé was one of my biggest idols growing up.”
The star also says she wasn’t the only one seen with the pin, making her wonder why she was singled out.
“That [pin] was a present from Katy Perry. Maybe I was the only one seen wearing it, but there were others. As for the rest of it, I’m oblivious, I’m just not the gossip queen.
I find it incredibly rude and disrespectful to women in general [when] we get accused of something that’s basically against the important part — the music.”
The America’s Next Top Model host has admitted to be surrounded by drama when it comes to her love life. At one point, former boyfriend Calvin Harris prevented her from performing I Will Never Let You Down, which taught her not to be so open about her personal life.
She added: “[Calvin is] very talented… I have had a few dramas, haven’t I? I think in general I’ve learned my lesson to not talk about relationships and gossip because I’ve been at the center of it a few times and it’s not worth it.”
