Springsteen: “ I felt a great kinship with Prince”
Bruce Springsteen took a moment to open up about the late Prince, publicly acknowledging how close they were until his passing.
The 66-year-old star was devastated upon learning of his friend’s death back in April. Now he revealed to Rolling Stone the many things he taught him about being an entertainer.
He shared: “It was a terrible shame. It was a great loss and a tragedy. I felt a great kinship with Prince. And he was a guy, when I’d go to see him, I’d say, ‘Oh, man, OK, back to the drawing board.'”
The Born to Run artist says that Prince knew everything about the music industry and considered him one of the greatest showman on the planet.
While talking about a film made about the late singer, which he saw on The Arsenio Hall Show, Bruce added: “There was a film of him on the Arsenio Hall Show, where he plays a series of songs in a row. It’s just some of the greatest showmanship I’ve ever seen.
He continued to say about the late star’s expertise: “Just since the 60s and 70s and your Sam and Daves and your James Browns, he’s one of the greatest showmen to come along. I studied that stuff a lot and put as much of it to use as I can with my talents. But he just took it to another level.”
Bruce also paid tribute to Prince earlier this year with his E Street band at the Berclays Center in New York. He honored the late musician with a special performance of Purple Rain as the stage was overtaken by purple light.
At one point during the show, the artist acknowledged Prince by adding: “Prince forever. God bless!”
