The director teases the film’s tone and focus
Director James Wan dropped some hints about the upcoming Aquaman movie, starring Jason Momoa, Willen Dafoe and Amber Heard. While refusing to reveal much information, Wan promises the flick will be a “swashbuckling action adventure.”
He shared with Entertainment Tonight: “I kind of don’t want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I’m going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story. It’s ultimately a quest story in the spirit of ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ meets ‘Romancing the Stone.’”
Both Momoa and Heard will also make an appearance in the upcoming Justice League. Wan is confident this will give audiences a good taste of what the standalone film will bring to the table.
He added: “I think Amber and Jason Momoa, in their moments in ‘Justice League‘, are going to give the rest of the world a flavour of what their own standalone movie could be. And that is just scratching the surface of what I plan to do.”
And the actress is excited to play the wife of Aquaman, and says she’s looking forward to trying on her costume some more.
She added: “Yeah, yeah I have. It’s interesting. It’s like, half suit of armour, half scales. I don’t know, it’s strange. But we’re in the process of building it now, so it’s coming along.”
Meanwhile, the upcoming Justice League recently wrapped filming and the stars took to social media to share some details.
Momoa stated while sharing a picture of himself and Ben Afleck: “My man. The batman love ya bud @benaffleck we did it that’s a wrap Mahalo to @guinness and @highlandparkofficial for taking care of aquaman and the JL crew. Odin my favorite ALOHA j”
Aquaman is slated for release sometime in 2018.
