The star hopes to inspire other young women
Lily Collins announced she is penning a memoir and hopes to inspire other young women to be brave and make smart choices in life. The project will include personal essays about her struggles, including her experiences as the daughter of Phil Collins. The star will further discuss relationships and body image.
She told People magazine about disclosing such personal details: “It’s definitely like having my diary published.”
The 27-year-old actress was inspired by director Warren Beatty and her role as Baptist Marla Mabrey in Rules Don’t Apply, a character that must overcome a series of intense situations.
She stated: “I was put into many situations throughout the years in acting, in Warren’s film especially, where you’re in an intense situation and you have to fight your way through it, go through the emotions, and live and breath those scenes.”
Meanwhile, Lily was previously dating actors Jamie Campbell Bower and Taylor Lautner, and while she won’t mention any names in the memoir, she will still open up about past relationships.
“It was not about attacking, it was about showing how you can be given situations in life and turn them into lessons. It takes knowing what you don’t want to know what you do want.”
The book’s purpose is also to help women who actively open up on social media. Likewise, the actress says her own inspiration comes from others who are already open and honest.
He explained: “This is my way to open up conversation with young women and say, ‘Hey, we’re all the same.’
They’re so open and honest and inspiring about their stories. It really encouraged me to be brave like them.”
The star’s memoir will be published through HarperCollins in March 2017.
