However, the star refuses to report the mystery assailant
Rose McGowan is claiming she was once raped by a Hollywood studio head and is now opening up about it via Twitter. The 43-year-old star shared some of the reasons why not everyone reports a rape in support of the social network’s trending hashtag, #WhyWomenDontReport.
She revealed through a series of tweets: “a (female) criminal attorney said because I’d done a sex scene in a film I would never win against the studio head. #WhyWomenDontReport
because it’s been an open secret in Hollywood/Media & they shamed me while adulating my rapist. #WhyWomenDontReport
Because my ex sold our movie to my rapist for distribution #WhyWomenDontReport
It is time for some goddamned honesty in this world.”
The popular hashtag’s goal is to raise awareness following allegations of inappropriate behavior made by US Presidential candidate Donald Trump. This has subsequently led many Trump supporters to question their loyalty, with some even looking at Hillary Clinton more favorably.
And this isn’t the first time the former Charmed actress has spoken up about rape and sexual harassment. Rose, who is a vocal activist and a big supporter of these social issues, recently contributed a piece to Glamour magazine on misogyny.
The article, which was written by her friend Amber Tamblyn, read: “If you’re a woman in America there’s a 10 in 10 chance you’ve experienced it–whether you recognize it or not, whether you’re ready to admit it or not. It’s a culture that talks down to you. [Misogyny] thrives in our country on a cellular level, right in front of our faces. It exists like goose bumps exist, like premonitions are felt, like earthquakes are predicted.”
