Scarlett: “Don’t be afraid to fail”
It’s clear that actress Scarlett Johansson has accomplished a lot throughout her career, managing to land prominent roles in countless Hollywood hits. The star attributes her success to her ability to take risks and she is now urging other women to never worry about failure.
When asked what piece of advice she would give to young women, she told reporters at Variety’s Power of Women Luncheon: “I think I would say take risks. Take risks and don’t be afraid to fail because the upside of that is just so rewarding … I’ve really built a career on taking risks and sometimes it doesn’t pan out but like I said, the upside has been hugely rewarding.”
The Lucy star also opened up about her two-year-old daughter – whom she shares with husband Romain Dauriac – admitting that the experience has transformed her.
She continued: “I think turning 30, having a child and coming into my own in the kind of creative space has been really transformative for me in a lot of ways. I think just learning to be more accepting of myself and be less harsh, less critical.”
And Scarlett insists that moving into powerful positions has happened naturally for her. She believes her 20 years of experience now makes her a highly experienced woman in any given production.
“I think for me it’s been, it’s kind of a natural progression. I’ve been working as an actor for over 20 years and I think I find at this stage in my career I often am probably one of the more experienced people in any given production that I’m working on. I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but it just comes with working for such a long time.”
