Actor Billy Bob Thornton admitted he watches – and even enjoys – My Little Pony with his 12-year-old daughter, Bella. In fact, he also wasn’t shy to admit his favorite character is Fluttershy because she “talks like Marilyn Monroe.”

The Fargo star shared on Late Night with Seth Myers: “[My daughter] likes Twilight Sparkle. I like Rainbow Dash, and Fluttershy because she talks like Marilyn Monroe.”

Billy – who also has William, Amanda, and Henry – also says the show’s underlying themes can be really substantial, which only adds to his enjoyment.

“One way or another we found one of her old books recently, and we started watching the show. And the underlying themes are actually pretty heavy. There was one about ‘Big Brother’ and ‘1984’ and all that kind of stuff. It’s really cool,” he explained.

And the 61-year-old actor says they frequently read the books, as his daughter really seems into the show at the moment.

Bella is now into the series spin-off, Equestria Girls, which features older versions of the characters. She made the transition after realizing she was a little too old for the original program.

He explained: “My daughter and I read the ‘My Little Pony’ books. And there was the little kid version of ‘My Little Pony’, but now there’s this other version of it for older kids.

They’ve got this other show called ‘Equestria Girls‘ which is the pony characters but they’re in another dimension, and they’re now teenage girls who go to high school.

They’re the same characters, only now they’re little girls and not horses. So now that she’s 12 we watch that mostly.”
