The singer thanks her team and years of experience
Charli XCX acknowledges there is a lot of pressure to be and act a certain way within the entertainment industry. However, the star insists she’s “very in control” thanks to her years of experience on the scene.
Charli – who has been in the industry since age 16 – was asked whether she’s pressured to conform while at the MTV EMA’s this past Sunday. She said: “Of course. It’s the music industry; it’s run by 50-year-old men.
I’m lucky to work with a really great team who knows best. And I’ve been doing this since I was 16, so I feel very in control.”
And the 24-year-old – who attended in a flashy, two-piece outfit – also admitted her self-esteem occasionally takes a hit.
“It’s a day by day thing. Sometimes I feel very confident; other days I don’t. I think everyone gets like that. Sometimes it’s on, sometimes it’s off. But tonight, I’m ready to party. I’m feeling good in my mermaid outfit.”
Needless to say, the singer was excited to tend to the after party following the MTV European Music Awards, as she admitted “It’s always an after party with me.”
Meanwhile, Charli had previously stated how unfair it is that successful women are often seen as rude or accused of being “b*tches.”
She added: “When it comes to being a successful woman, there always seems to be a question. ‘Why are you successful? Is it because you’re a bitch?’ There always seems to be a negative connotation.
There are only a few female execs at record companies. There are a lot of great female songwriters and producers, but they’re definitely a minority, especially on the business side.”
