Mariah Carey split from billionaire James Packer after the two were well on their way to the altar. Now it’s been reported that the artist is happily moving on and feels that she has “dodged a bullet” just in time.

An insider shared with Entertainment Tonight: “She’s ready to move on. She feels like she dodged a bullet … The negotiations aren’t going well. At the best, she’ll keep the ring.”

Despite feeling satisfied with her decision, a source had previously claimed the split was nevertheless devastating. Mariah had gradually made numerous changes to make the relationship work, but everything ended seemingly overnight.

An insider explained: “The split has been devastating for Mariah. She loved James and was planning to marry him … She made life changes for this man to prepare for their future as husband and wife, even relocating to Los Angeles, at James’ request, so he could be closer to his children. Everything she has done over the past year is to prove how fully committed she is to their life together. She really wanted this to work. And then, completely out of the blue, it imploded.”

Although details of their breakup remain vague, a source revealed they called it quits after an intense argument while in Greece.

“It started in Greece [with] some sort of outburst [from James] which everyone heard. [He told her,] I don’t know if I can do this. I can barely take care of my own children.”

The two had even canceled a planned meet-up in October in an attempt to talk things through. A source said: “Mariah and James never met up after that. And they haven’t spoken. The way the split news was handled was incredibly upsetting to her.”
