Rachael: I was so nervous. I mean, I'm not an actress
Rachel Ray landed a cameo role on the Netflix reboot of Gilmore Girls as she filled for Melissa McCarthy.
The celebrity chef can be seen working at the fictional Dragonfly Inn while Sookie – portrayed by McCarthy – is supposedly not available. Now the star confessed she was really nervous due to her lack of acting skills.
She explained to Entertainment Tonight: “I was so nervous. I mean, I’m not an actress.
Everything we do is unscripted, but I was so impressed that the food stylist made all my food…She made all my real food, so it was kinda cool!”
Rachel’s character eventually gets fired from the kitchen, and although she felt ashamed in some ways, the 30 Minute Meals host was glad that Melissa could take over.
She shared: “I’ve only been real-fired once in life, and I was kind of embarrassed that I got fake-fired on the show, but if it brought back Melissa McCarthy, that’s fine with me.”
Despite her nervousness, Rachel was thankful to actress Lauren Graham – who plays Lorelai – for helping her feel at ease on the film set.
“Lauren I’ve known for years, she’s one of our favorite guests [on ‘The Rachael Ray Show’], and I just think she’s such a delight to be around.
She makes everybody feel at ease. She’s so lovely and a great actress, [and she] calmed me right down on set!”
And keeping her appearance secretive was much easier than she ever anticipated, as people only asked her about her cooking career.
“I work all summer over at Food Network. People just ask me food questions, so it was pretty easy to keep it a secret.”
