An incredible new photo is making the rounds on social media, and causing doctors to scratch their heads on how it happened.
A photo of a newborn baby boy is taking the Internet by storm, because it’s no ordinary photo. The baby is clutching something in its hand that should have prevented it from every being born, and doctors are trying to figure out how on Earth it happened.
Alabama mom Lucy Hellein gave birth to little Dexter recently, but she wasn’t trying to get pregnant. In fact, just three weeks prior to her conception, she had an intrauterine device (IUD) implanted, but it apparently didn’t work this time around.
Doctors thought that perhaps the IUD somehow fell out, but after Dexter was born, they found it in her placenta. So Hellein thought it would be funny to put the IUD in Dexter’s hand and snap a photo, jokingly captioning the post “Mirena fail!” Mirena is the brand name that produces the IUD.
“I didn’t think it would go viral,” Hellein said in an interview with local station WTSP. “My doctor believes I may have gotten pregnant about three weeks after it was placed.”.
