In reality, it was just the strange cloud produced by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, but it briefly astonished residents of the city.
It was absolute pandemonium in Los Angeles as it appeared a mysterious UFO was creating a strange cloud in the sky. But as it turns out, what had actually happened is that SpaceX had launched a Falcon 9 rocket, which was responsible for the bizarre sight in the sky.
The launch took place from nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base at around 5:30 p.m., and because the sunset was striking the trail the rocket was leaving in just the right way, it looked incredible bright in the sky. Video of the amazing incident is embedded at the bottom of this article.
The incident, not surprisingly, got a huge reaction on social media. “WTF was that – first contact?,”, tweeted user ‘Echo Park Now’. SpaceX founder Elon Musk certainly seemed to find the whole thing amusing, joking about the sighting on Twitter and calling it a “Nuclear alien UFO from North Korea.”
Some other Twitter reactions:
“I SWEAR TO GOD I JUST SAW A UFO WTF IS THIS #LosAngeles #aliens #ufo I’m literally shaking right now,” said Katriece Ray.
“UFO sighting over Los Angeles?? Somebody please explain. #ufo #losangeles #aliens #wtf,” said Andrew Gust.
“The Los Angeles sky has something weird happening… Aliens, if you’re here, believe me, 2017 is not the year you want to land… #la #ufo #wtf,” said Sarah Jeanne.
