Neil deGrasse Tyson is taking on flat earthers, pointing out the many problems with that outrageous concept.
Neil deGrasse Tyson has a big time reality check for believers in a flat Earth. The popular physicist and host of the show “Cosmos” released a new YouTube video on his channel that lays out all of the most compelling evidence on why it is ridiculous to reject the obvious fact that the Earth is spherical, and not a flat disk. You can watch the video at the bottom of this article.
In a video conversation on his StarTalk YouTube channel, he has a pretty simple answer for those who believe the Earth is flat. “We have video from space of the rotating, spherical Earth. The Earth is round,” he said.
He went on to explain exactly why the planets throughout our universe, as well as stars and other objects, tend to take on a round shape. Spheres may often appear distorted if they are rotating at an extreme speed, but other than that, the laws of physicis favors the sphere, Tyson said.
Tyson blamed a couple of things for the fact that there actually still exists some people who deny that the Earth is round. He said that the United States protects free speech, so people are free to spout all the nonsense they want, and our eductational system does not teach pepole to think critically as they should.
Tyson went on to describe more reasons to think that the Earth is round, such as the fact that the shape of the Earth’s shadow is always round during eclipses, whereas if the Earth was a flat disk, sometimes you would see a flat shadow on the moon. Instead, the Earth always casts a perfect circle, because it is a sphere.
