An alarming increase of strategic package thievery continues to prevail in the Miami-Dade area.
Authorities are searching for a man who stole a Dell computer that was being delivered by a FedEx driver in Miami in May.
The theft was reported about 10:30 a.m. May 10 in front of an apartment building in the 800 block of Northwest 11th Street.
According to detectives, a man drove up in a red, four-door Lexus CT 200h and approached the driver while posing as a customer.
The package delivery driver was not convinced with the perpetrator’s story, resulting in the man’s departure.
According to police reports, the man returned eight minutes later and approached another FedEx driver, who was also making a delivery, convincing him to give him a package that he said he was waiting for.
The thief took the package and drove off, authorities said.
Police said the package contained a Dell computer valued at more than $1,600.
Similar incidences in the area have prompted the Miami Police force to accelerate investigations and call upon citizens for leads.
A recent incidence occurred and evidenced when a man and woman were captured on surveillance video this week stealing a package outside a home in Miami.
Homeowner Tatiana Romero-Dana said the theft happened shortly after 11 a.m. Monday in the Grapeland Heights neighborhood on Northwest 37th Avenue near 19th Street.
Surveillance video shows the duo pull up to the home in a white Volkswagen, possibly a Jetta or Passat.
The man, who was driving the car, opens the front gate to the home and steals the package. The video shows the couple switching seats in the car before the woman drives away.
Romero-Dana said the package contained a garment bag that she needed for a trip this weekend.
The Miami couple will have lived at the home for a year in August. She said they make frequent online purchases, but have never had one stolen from outside their home before.
Law enforcement has requested citizens to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers with any information leading to the arrest of the thieves.
